Stays in Tzaneen

Tzaneen is a green market town in Limpopo, set among avocado, mango and banana farms below the Magoebaskloof mountains. Its country lodges, spa hotels and golf resorts make a cool, leafy base between the Kruger Park and the Limpopo highlands.

Updated October 9, 2026

Tzaneen lies in the Letaba valley of Limpopo, around 100 km east of Polokwane and roughly two hours by road from the Phalaborwa Gate of the Kruger National Park. The surrounding hills are planted with avocados, mangoes, bananas and macadamias, and the climate is warm and humid in summer and mild in winter. Above town, the R71 climbs through Magoebaskloof, with indigenous forest, tea estates and waterfalls such as Debengeni Falls, while the Tzaneen Dam and the Modjadji Cycad Reserve are short drives away. Note that the wider Lowveld, including parts of the Tzaneen area and the Kruger, is a malaria-risk zone, so check current advice before travel. Stays range from golf and spa resorts to quiet country lodges in the hills.
