Our take
Golden Horse suits guests who want a comfortable base with plenty on site: a spa for downtime, a pool that stays open all year and a casino for the evening. Its position 3 km from Pietermaritzburg Airport makes arrivals and departures easy to plan. With an 8.3 rating across 516 reviews, it is a dependable pick in the city. Travellers looking for something intimate or nature-led should choose a smaller lodge instead.
- Use the spa to unwind after a day of travel or activities.
- Ask for interconnecting rooms if you are travelling as a family.
- Try the on-site casino for an evening out without leaving the hotel.
Why we love it

- Proximity to Pietermaritzburg Airport
- Comfortable rooms with bathtubs
- Dining and entertainment on site
Why guests love itGolden Horse is a four-star hotel with a lot packed onto one site: a spa, a year-round outdoor pool, a restaurant, a bar and a casino. Rooms are air-conditioned with bathtubs, which families with small children will find useful. The airport is only 3 km away, so arrival days stay simple. An 8.3 rating from 516 reviews is a solid score. I would recommend it to guests who want everything under one roof, less so to those after quiet.
