Our take
Umhlanga Apart Hotel suits families and couples looking for a comfortable, secure stay in Durban, which lies outside malaria-risk areas. The indoor pool and fitness centre are real assets for winding down after a day out, whatever the weather. Travellers who want direct beach access or the intimate feel of a boutique hotel may find the property a little too focused on standard amenities.
- Use the indoor pool to cool off whatever the weather outside.
- Make the most of the free private parking if you are travelling by car.
- Ask about nearby golf clubs if you play, as the location suits a round or two.
Why we love it

Why guests love itUmhlanga Apart Hotel works for families who want practical space rather than resort extras. The air-conditioned family rooms have private bathrooms, and the indoor pool is useful whatever the weather, with a fitness centre and a lounge for downtime. Free private parking helps if you arrive by car. The Umhlanga Lighthouse is close, and golf players have clubs such as Beachwood Golf Club nearby. It is a straightforward three-star base, so do not expect direct beach access.
